Romper Stomper is about the rise and fall of a neo-Nazi skinhead group in suburban Melbourne. The gang of skinheads, led by Hando, attack two teenagers of Vietnamese descent at a subway station. Hando and friend Davey beat the two boys near death before fleeing. Hando meets a drug addict named Gabrielle. Gabrielle is a constant victim of her rich father’s sexual abuse. Martin, Gabrielle’s father, also orchestrates an attack on her boyfriend, another drug addict. However, Hando and Gabrielle become close and start a romantic relationship. Some of the other skinheads visit Hando and go out for a long night of drinking and violence. Two members of the gang go to a pub owned by a Vietnamese businessman. Hando learns of this and orchestrates an attack on the owner’s sons. While the attack occurs, another Vietnamese boy calls for help. The gang is soon confronted by a mob of armed Vietnamese men. A few skinheads are killed in the melee. The skinheads find a new home at a warehouse. They kick out the homeless tenants living there before taking over. They soon begin a plan to retaliate against the Vietnamese. The gang members plan to buy weapons in order for the attack to be successful. Gabrielle urges the gang to break into her father’s house. Martin is beaten by the gang while his house is being robbed. Gabrielle informs Martin that the robbery was payback for his abuse to his daughter. Martin manages to escape and scares off the gang with a gun. Meanwhile, Davey contemplates leaving the gang. Eventually, he does. At the same time, Gabrielle and Hando end their relationship. Davey tells Gabrielle life with the gang before the two spend the night together. Infuriated, Hando accuses Gabrielle of going to the police about the gang. Hando attempts to kill Gabrielle, but is stabbed to death by Davey.
