A thought provoking drama starring a young Ryan Gosling in an early role that earned him critical praise. Daniel Baling (Ryan Gosling) is a troubled young man living in New York City. Yeshiva educated and belonging to a conservative Jewish family, Danny is conflicted by his understanding of God and the Jewish faith. He joins a local fascist group and soon finds himself growing deeply involved and living a double life. He becomes a skinhead and is soon pushing his new associates towards more violent action, committing anti-Semitic acts and raging against what he considers the passivity of Holocaust survivors. But even as he delves deeper into hatred he still feels the pull of his faith, and the two sides of his life race on a collision course.

The film was loosely based on a similar story involving the unmasking of a Jewish member of the Ku Klux Klan during the 1960s

Also starring Billy Zane and Theresa Russel. Directed by Henry Bean, the movie was released to critical acclaim and won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance.
