The Place Beyond the Pines is a crime drama film that was written by Ben Coccio, Darius Marder and Derek Cianfrance, who also directed. The cast features Ryan Gosling as Luke Glanton, Bradley Cooper as Avery Cross, Eva Mendes as Romina, Rose Byrne as Jennifer, Ray Liotta as Deluca, Dane DeHaan as Jason, Bruce Greenwood as Bill Killcullen and Ben Mendelsohn as Robin Van Der Zee. The story follows a multi generational family concerning the various identities and inheritances as a result of the sins of their fathers, as well as life in general. Luke (played by Ryan Gosling) is a motorcycle stunt driver working for little more than what can be had as a traveling carnival side-show performer. The dangerous work that he does has made him a hardened man, evidenced by a strong body that is covered in tattoos and torn clothes. He hasn't been in the small town he has returned to since he had a one nighter with a waitress (played by Eva Mendes). Romina is inexplicably cold to him now and seems to have information that could drastically change his life - and not necessarily in a good way. Their lives begin to unravel and an ugly past is revealed in furious fashion. Avery Cross (played by Bradley Cooper) is a straight arrow policeman. As the son of a judge, he has his whole life ahead of him that is sure to go well. His job, however, is causing a big ruckus on the street - particularly with the criminal element that is ever looming, despite the small size of the town. Luke is essentially a rebel and a troublemaker, so he is bound to cross paths with the law eventually. When he does, it is with up and coming Avery, who has a lot at stake for his reputation. Their lives become connected such that their family's mistakes are passed along to future generations.
