Saawan is a 2016 Pakistani drama film, directed by Farhan Alam and produced by Mashood Qadri. The movie tells the emotional story of a young boy named Saawan who is struck by polio during a particularly heavy monsoon season in a remote village in Pakistan. The film features an ensemble cast led by Saleem Mairaj and Syed Karam Hussain, with Arif Bahalim playing an important supporting role.

The movie opens with the monsoon rains pounding the village, and as a result, the villagers are trapped in their homes. Saawan, a young boy living in the village, is separated from his mother during the chaos of the storm. He is taken care of by his loving grandmother, who is still coming to grips with the loss of her daughter, Saawan’s mother, to the floods a year ago. Saawan, who is already suffering from a disease, polio, finds himself lost and alone in the aftermath.

As soon as the storm passes, Saawan’s plight is discovered by the people who come out of their homes. An urban doctor, played by Karam Hussain, who is visiting the area for a charity medical camp, takes an interest in Saawan’s condition and begins to investigate the boy's condition. The doctor tries to convince Saawan's grandmother to declare her grandson to have fully healed before they can transport him. However, this is not possible, with Saawan having both the amputation of one leg and the onset of polio.

The story then shifts to Karachi, where a massive fundraising campaign has been launched to help Saawan get a prosthetic limb. However, the parents of the children who are being treated during the charity medical camp have also requested the services of the prosthetic limb manufacturer. Since they generate more business than Saawan, he is left waiting for weeks without receiving his limb. The incident makes Saawan realize that those who are lucky enough to afford treatment are always given priority over those who can't afford it.

Saawan's story is a tale of resilience, strength, and hope. The movie beautifully portrays how this young boy overcomes adversity and all the obstacles in his way to live a fulfilling life. Throughout the film, his journey inspires all who come into contact with him to see the world with a renewed sense of purpose and hope.

The film is also a powerful commentary on society's treatment of those who suffer from diseases and disabilities. It shows how Saawan's grandmother, in particular, is left on the margins of the society because of her son-in-law's inability to provide for her and Saawan adequately. In the face of these challenges, she remains strong and dedicated to Saawan's care, providing him with all the love and support that he needs.

Furthermore, Saawan also deals with the issue of child trafficking in Pakistan. The movie shows how this practice is deeply ingrained in society and how it is easy for traffickers to kidnap children in remote areas such as where Saawan is from. In the movie, the doctor tries to make sure that Saawan does not fall victim to these dangerous elements.

In conclusion, Saawan is an emotional and heart-wrenching movie that makes its viewers appreciate the value of hope, resilience and strength. Its portrayal of society's treatment of those who are suffering and its commentary on child trafficking is both timely and important. The movie highlights the need for our society to come together to help those who are struggling to get back to their feet. It is a must-watch for those who would like to see the power of finding hope and strength in the most adverse conditions.
