The Impossible is a 2012 movie directed by Juan Antonio Bayona and starring Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts. It is a Spanish drama spoken in English. The movie tells the story of a Spanish family (being portrayed as an English family due to the English overlay) and their experience in the Indian Ocean tsunami that happened in 2004. The movie was produced by two companies working together, Apaches Entertainment and Telecinco Cinema, and filming took place in Spain and Thailand. The movie tracks the family as they get caught in one of the biggest natural disasters of the century. The family of five leaves home to go on a vacation for the holidays. They have decided upon Thailand for their holiday plans. They get to Thailand and are beginning to enjoy their vacation. However, on the 26th of December, their vacation is destroyed. A tsunami is triggered and sweeps over the coastal zone. The family becomes separated and begins the frantic search to reunite with one another amid the thousands of others who are suffering and trying to survive the Tsunami catastrophe as well. Warner Brothers released the film on October 11, 2012, in Spain. Summit Entertainment bought the rights to release it in the United States, and released a teaser trailer in December of 2011, followed by a full length trailer in August of 2012. The movie is set to release in December of 2012. The movie has been given several positive reviews. Rotten Tomatoes gave the movie a 7.3 out of 10, and the movie was reviewed by The Hollywood Reporter, Variety magazine, and The Guardian all with highly positive reviews. In Spain, the movie's release was hugely successful, with opening weekend grossing $11,569,306. The movie became the highest grossing opening weekend movie to ever happen in Spain, and remained the #1 movie for several weeks after its opening.
