Sarbjit is a 2016 Bollywood biographical drama film directed by Omung Kumar, starring Randeep Hooda, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Richa Chadha in the lead roles. The film is based on the real-life story of Sarbjit Singh, who was falsely convicted of terrorism and sentenced to death by a Pakistani court. The movie tells the story of his sister Dalbir Kaur, who relentlessly fought to prove his innocence.

The film starts with a happy family living in a small village in Punjab. Sarbjit (Randeep Hooda) is a farmer who lives with his wife and two daughters. One day, while he is in a drunken state, he accidentally crosses the Indian border and ends up in Pakistani territory. The Pakistani army arrests him and accuses him of being a spy and being involved in terrorist activities.

Sarbjit is imprisoned in a Pakistani jail where he is brutally tortured and kept in solitary confinement for years. His sister Dalbir Kaur (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) comes to know about his arrest and starts a long and painful journey to get him released. She goes from pillar to post, trying to reach out to politicians and government officials to seek their help.

The movie then shows the gruesome conditions that Sarbjit has to endure in the Pakistani jail. He is beaten up by the prison guards, starved for days, and kept in a small cell without any ventilation. Meanwhile, Dalbir's struggle to get her brother released becomes more intense. She meets with several politicians, including Rajnath Singh (played by Ankur Bhatia), who promise to help her but do little to get Sarbjit released.

The film also shows the parallel story of Awais Sheikh (played by Darshan Kumaar), a Pakistani lawyer who takes up Sarbjit's case and fights for his release. He believes that Sarbjit is innocent and tries to prove his point in the Pakistani courts. He faces severe opposition from the Pakistani authorities and is threatened with dire consequences if he continues to fight for Sarbjit.

The movie reaches its climax when Sarbjit is finally released from the Pakistani jail after 23 long years. The entire village comes together to welcome him, and his daughters scream in joy as they reunite with their father. But Sarbjit is a broken man by now, physically and mentally scarred by his long incarceration. He dies a few days later in a hospital, and Dalbir is left to mourn for her brother and continue her fight for justice.

Sarbjit is a powerful and emotional movie that highlights the pain of families who are caught in political conflicts. It shows the harsh reality of life in prison and the trauma that prisoners and their families have to endure. The performances of Randeep Hooda, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Richa Chadha are outstanding, and they bring the characters to life with their nuanced acting. The film is a must-watch for those who love biographical dramas and want to understand the human cost of political conflicts.
