Screamers: The Hunting is the 2009 sequel to the science fiction "b-flick" Screamers, which initially released in 1995. The original Screamers follows Col. Hendricksson and his crew of soldiers on the planet SIRIUS 6B as they deal with a race of manmade killing machines, called Screamers, with designs of obliterating all life on the planet. The sequel, Screamers: The Hunting, deals with another group of humans arriving to the planet Sirius 6B, years after the culmination of the first film and the supposed destruction of the Screamer menace. Screamers: The Hunting was released straight to video and premiered on cable television on the SyFy channel which is a sort of hub for this genre of science fiction/horror hybrid. The film stars actress Gina Holden as Lt. Victoria Bronte, the woman in charge of the new group of humans, and Lance Henriksen as the dark but engaging Orsow. The film was directed by Sheldon Wilson and the script was adapted from a Phillip K. Dick short story who happens to be a juggernaut in the world of science fiction literature and film adaptations. The project was shot in the Badlands to promote the spacey and different world look of the outdoor scenes. The film released to mixed reviews with various grades of appreciation based on the audience. "B" science fiction lovers enjoyed the continuation of the cult classic, Screamers 1995, and the adherence to the style of the time. More strict reviewers, that is to say those outside of the genre, had issues with the script degrading to cliché and the lack of strength in the acting department. It is worth noting, however, that any time a supposed "B" movie can strike such a diverse note in the reviews section that there is more to like than dislike.
