Sherrybaby is a 2006 movie that follows the main character, Sherry as she tries to reconnect with her daughter after being released from a 3 year prison term. Sherry had high expectations of building a relationship with her daughter Alexis that would soon repair the damage that her life choices had previously caused in a delicate mother daughter bond. What Sherry didn't know is that some bonds once broken will require more than a willingness to make up for lost time. She realizes that she will have to jump through several hoops before she could begin to emulate a healthy relationship with the child that she had left behind. Upon being released from prison Sherry would have to live in a halfway house while she struggled to regain her life. The halfway house that Sherry is placed in is a mere step above prison life and she quickly learns that being free doesn't mean that she has earned her freedom. Sherry quickly realizes that she will need to follow the rules of her halfway house and learn to adapt or face being returned to prison and lose everything that she is working for. Sherry's halfway house isn't her only problem. Her Alexis has been raised by her brother Bobby and his wife Lynette for the last three years and earning their trust will need to be accomplished before they'll trust her to be around Alexis. The one thing that Sherry has going for her is an unlikely relationship with Dean Walker, who Sherry met through an AA meeting. Dean provides a constant growing level of support that provides Sherry with a strength that she never knew she had. With her new strength she begins a battle of truth first with herself and then with those around her that creates a balance between her pain and her deepest desires.
