In this sequel to the original Short Circuit, viewers follow Benjamin Jahrvi where he is now residing in New York City, and sells versions of his product Johnny 5 on the streets of the city. While he has no problem selling his masterminded work this way, he finds his way in to a business proposition with Sandy Banatoni. She sees the toy and orders over 1,000 of them to sell in her store. With the help of a con artist named Fred, borrowing money from a loan shark for equipment, he winds up using a warehouse to build the toys using independent workers and temporary employees. Though the warehouse is a good location for their work it also is the place where a set of thieves hides out to prepare for their job. The duo plans on stealing the Vanderveer collection. In order to take over complete operation of the warehouse the pair tries to scare off Ben and Fred by trashing their produced work and robots in the making, but nothing seems to be working. When a crate arrives at Ben’s friend’s house holding the original Johnny 5, Johnny helps with the business and making the rest of the toys so Ben can become a U.S. Citizen. Though Ben does not let Johnny know of their location, Fred accidently tells him they reside in New York City, which causes Johnny to leave and venture through the city. Learning exactly how much Johnny is worth in estimated costs, Fred tries to sell him to businessmen of New York and after some unfortunate luck, Johnny winds up missing and Ben must report him as stolen. Ben with his bewildered heart must find his friend and finish his deadline all within a short time. Not knowing where to look first, he goes to the police for assistance and hopes for the best.
