Some Kind of Hate is a 2015 horror movie that places bullying in the spotlight. It's directed by Adam Egypt Mortimer and stars Andrew Bryniarski, Justin Prentice, and Ronen Rubinstein. Lincoln Taggert (Rubinstein) is a troubled teenager who deals with a great deal of abuse in his life. After being expelled from several schools, he ends up in a remote wilderness training facility, where he discovers a connection with Moira (Sierra McCormick), a girl who's a victim of bullying herself.

Lincoln is soon driven to a dark place by the taunts of his tormentors, and in a tragic moment, he accidentally kills one of his attackers, leading to a bloody chain of events that leads him to the Kingdom Prep school. Kingdom Prep is a reform school wholly unlike any other, as it's rumoured to be haunted by a vengeful, spectral figure. When Lincoln comes into contact with the ghost, he unintentionally unleashes a fury that he cannot control, and soon the entire school is threatened by the wrath of this supernatural being.

The film delves deep into the horrors of bullying, displaying the devastating effects upon its victims. This film takes things to the next level, illustrating a world where school bullies no longer must worry about discipline, or of being taken to task by teachers, administrators, or parents. Instead, as the story evolves, it is made abundantly clear that there is something far worse than any detention, any grounding, or any lecture that can possibly await a young bully.

Some Kind of Hate has a remarkably spooky atmosphere, thanks to its dim lighting and its star performing ensemble. Ronen Libinstein's portrayal of Lincoln is ingeniously executed; he portrays the character as believable, and if it comes off as a little one-note, it's scarcely noticeable within the context of the film. He's given strong support from Andrew Bryniarski, a veteran of horror films, who comes off as a foreboding figure, thanks to his imposing stature and the intensity of his acting.

Justin Prentice is also exceptional as Isaac, Lincoln's chief tormentor. His portrayal is convincing, and he seems to relish the opportunity to play a total scumbag. Sierra McCormick is also outstanding as Moira; as Lincoln's peripheral but heroic love interest, McCormick is a standout, conveying deep emotions with skillful restraint.

Moreover, aside from a few minor cliches, the film avoids the pitfalls that typically trip up other slasher movies. The stunts and special effects are high-quality without ever seeming overdone; the filmmakers seem well aware that atmosphere and storytelling are what matter most in horror films, and they succeed. Shot in earnest, it's genuinely creepy, with a real sense of tension, making it an entertaining horror movie.

Overall, Some Kind of Hate is a thought-provoking horror film with a powerful message about the power of bullying. It offers a fresh take on slasher horror, successfully blending several different elements into a single, intense package. Adam Egypt Mortimer's debut feature is viscerally driven, unpredictable, and altogether exceptional. If you're a fan of horror movies, or if you want something with an emotional punch that goes beyond the typical tropes of the genre, then Some Kind of Hate should pique your interest.

Some Kind Of Hate is a 2015 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 22 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.6 and a MetaScore of 28.
