Steel Country is a gripping and emotionally charged thriller that tells the story of a small town in Pennsylvania that is rocked to its core when a young boy is found dead in a local river. The film stars Andrew Scott as Donald Devlin, a local sanitation worker who becomes obsessed with solving the mystery of the boy's death. Devlin is a solitary figure, living alone in a rundown trailer park on the edge of town. He spends his days collecting garbage and his nights drinking in the local bar, where he is viewed with suspicion by the other townspeople. But when the boy's body is discovered, Devlin becomes fixated on finding out what happened to him.

With no real authority or expertise, Devlin sets out on his own investigation, piecing together clues and unraveling a web of secrets that lead him to some unexpected places. Along the way, he forms an unlikely partnership with Stevie, the mother of the dead boy, played by Bronagh Waugh. Stevie is a strong-willed and independent woman who is desperate to find out what happened to her son, and she sees in Devlin a kindred spirit who shares her determination. Together, they begin to uncover a web of deception and corruption that runs deep in the town.

As they get closer to the truth, however, Devlin and Stevie find themselves in increasing danger. The more they uncover, the more they realize that powerful forces are working against them, and that their lives may be at risk. But they refuse to back down, and in the end, they discover the shocking truth about what really happened to the boy.

Andrew Scott gives a powerful and nuanced performance as Devlin, imbuing the character with a sense of purpose and intensity that is palpable on screen. He is both sympathetic and unsettling, a man whose obsession with the case borders on the pathological. Bronagh Waugh is equally impressive as Stevie, a woman whose grief is palpable but whose determination never wavers.

Denise Gough is also excellent in her role as Heather, a local prostitute who becomes a key part of Devlin's investigation. Heather is a complex character, tough and streetwise on the outside but vulnerable on the inside, and Gough brings a depth and humanity to the role that is both surprising and moving.

Overall, Steel Country is a tense and thought-provoking film that explores themes of grief, loss, and the search for truth in a world where power and corruption often hold sway. With its powerful performances, nuanced script, and deft direction, it is a film that will stay with you long after the credits roll.
