In 1905, a young boy by the name of Daniel Hackett has become unhappy about his life as a farmer and wants to live in New York City. Daniel's father enjoys telling his son tall tales to pass the time. Pecos Bill, Paul Bunyan and John Henry are among the tales that would be repeated to Daniel over and over again. A greedy land developer comes to visit to see if the land is for sale, when Daniel's father refuses the offer. He is then hunted down and shot. Daniel becomes upset about what has happened to his father. He runs away from home and falls asleep in his father's boat. He then wakes up in a Texas desert and embarks on a journey where he actually meets Pecos Bill, John Henry and Paul Bunyan.
