The Bad Seed is a 2018 horror-thriller film starring Rob Lowe, Mckenna Grace, and Sarah Dugdale. Directed by Rob Lowe himself, the film is a modern retelling of the 1956 novel and subsequent movie of the same name. The movie follows the story of a seemingly perfect family: Christine (played by Sarah Dugdale), her husband David (Rob Lowe), and their daughter Emma (Mckenna Grace). Emma is a sweet and intelligent child who seems to have it all - loving parents, a comfortable home, and a bright future ahead of her. However, as the movie progresses, it becomes apparent that there's something sinister going on beneath the surface.

Emma is revealed to be a disturbed child with a dark past. She's been kicked out of multiple schools for violent behavior, and she has a tendency to manipulate those around her to get what she wants. Despite her charming exterior, Emma is a master manipulator whose ultimate goal is to control her family.

As the story progresses, Emma's behavior becomes increasingly erratic and violent. She begins to demonstrate sociopathic tendencies and shows no remorse for her actions. Her parents, desperate to help their daughter, seek the help of a therapist, Dr. March (played by Patty McCormack, who played the original bad seed in the 1956 film). Dr. March warns them that Emma's behavior is too extreme to be a normal part of childhood development, and that they should be concerned for their own safety.

The tension builds throughout the film, as Emma's behavior becomes more and more unpredictable. The audience is left wondering just how far Emma is willing to go to get what she wants.

One of the most impressive things about The Bad Seed is the way it explores the concept of nature vs. nurture. Is Emma inherently evil, or has she simply been shaped by her environment? The film doesn't offer any easy answers, leaving the audience to draw their own conclusions.

Mckenna Grace gives a standout performance as Emma. She's able to convey both the character's sweet exterior and her underlying darkness with ease. Rob Lowe and Sarah Dugdale are also excellent as Emma's parents, struggling to deal with their daughter's disturbing behavior.

In terms of its style, The Bad Seed is a stylish and atmospheric film. The cinematography is moody and ominous, and the soundtrack adds to the tension. The film isn't overly reliant on jump scares, instead relying on a slow-burn approach that keeps the audience on edge.

Overall, The Bad Seed is a well-crafted and genuinely creepy horror-thriller. While it may not be the most original movie out there, it's a solid retelling of a classic story that's sure to keep audiences on the edge of their seats.
