The Beautiful Country

The movie The Beautiful Country follows Binh, who is a boy born during the Vietnam War. He lives in Vietnam and his mother was Vietnamese and his father was an American soldier. He gets older and leaves town to find his mother. Mother and son head to a boat going to the United States. A storm knocks the boat off track and they end up at a refugee camp in Malaysia. At the camp Bihn meets Ling who has been working as a prostitute. They fall for each other. She was able to make enough money to buy their way out of this camp. Binh’s mother stayed behind. When they reach the United States they are rushed to China Town in New York City. They find work there and Binh hears he can become a citizen since his father was an American. He is able to track his father’s ex wife down in Texas.
