This 1957 movie is loosely based on the life and career of Hollywood star, Buster Keaton. The black and white film traces Keaton's life from his vaudeville beginnings to his difficult transition into talkies. His path is complicated by alcohol and his downward spiral is well documented. Donald O'Connor breathes life into the title role and conveys the humor and wit that helped to make Buster Keaton famous. Sadly, we see Keaton become a lost soul as both his mental and physical health gradually deteriorate. Strong supporting performances by Ann Blyth and Peter Lorre keep the story interesting and entertaining.
