The Decameron
After escaping a fall into a toilet pit, he is robbed of his clothing and money. He gets with grave robbers who force him by threatening to ascend into a dead archbishop in order to steal a ruby ring. However, the skeptical Andreuccio declines, afraid of being taken advantage of again.
The wife is caught with a man by her jealous husband. He goes off to clean a large pot while the woman has sex with her lover, nonetheless.
As Ciappelletto goes north to collect financial debts when he becomes ill, two friends become concerned that they may be held responsible for his death. As a result, they call a priest to get a confession from the dying man. When Ciappelletto's admissions are considered trivial, an astonished priest classifies him as a saint before he is buried.
His friend Tingoccio sleeps with several women on a daily basis. Meuccio, on the other hand, is without compromise. In order to get salvation, they agree that whoever should die first will come back to let the other one know what it is like to die.
When Tingoccio first dies, Meuccio assumes it is due to his sexual indulgences. His spirit reveals that while many punishments count in real life, they do not count in the afterlife. Thus, Meuccio has been chaste and pious for no reason at all.
