The Nevels were pioneers who only wanted to give their family a better life. They have five kids and live in the mountains of Kentucky. Clovis, the father of the children, gets a job offer that he cannot refuse. Gertie, Clovis’ wife, has no choice but to agree to uproot the family and take them to Detroit. The family faces extreme situations during their travels and the situations could be deadly. Gertie has to learn how to be strong and face the most difficult challenges without the help of her husband. Everything depends on her determination to make things work for her family.
