The Forgotten Ones is a 2009 horror movie directed by Jorg Ihle. The story follows a group of college students who venture into the deep forest for a wildlife research project. The team consists of seven students led by their professor, Mrs. Olsted. Throughout the movie, they encounter various abnormalities in the wilderness, and things begin to go awry as their journey progresses.

The movie is set in the dense, eerie forest of the Pacific Northwest, where the students are studying the habitat of endangered species. The team is isolated and has limited communication with the outside world. As the students conduct their research, they sense that there is something strange with the wildlife, and their hunt for an endangered animal takes them deep into the forest. Eventually, they come across a mysterious hunter, Douglas, who claims that there is no way out of the forest except through a small town a mile away. This town turns out to be abandoned, and the students get trapped in the town.

As the story unfolds, the students begin to feel the ominous presence of a terrifying entity, distinct and mysterious from the animals they were studying. One of the students discovers an old notebook, revealing that the town had a dark history of a witch who was burned alive during the Salem Witch Trials. In desperation for survival, the students try to find a way out of the town while also battling the entity, which seems to have taken control over the animals and harnesses evil energies.

The director effectively builds the tension in the movie by creating an atmosphere of foreboding and impending doom. The cinematography of the forest is stunning, as the camera pans over the dense foliage and runs through the trees, leaving the viewer with a sense of disorientation.

The special effects used in the movie are impressive, with the visuals of the supernatural entity being particularly noteworthy. The makeup and costume of the entity give it a chilling appearance, and the sound effects are designed to send shivers down your spine.

The movie's pacing is slow, but this works in its favor as it builds tension, and the eerie atmosphere adds to a sense of unease. The plot is well-written and has a few twists turning the story from a mere horror movie to something much more engrossing.

The actors put in a great performance in the movie, with the lead actor, Jewel Staite, particularly demonstrating her prowess as an actor. Her portrayal of Maya, the student who leads the group through their ordeal, is nuanced and convincing, and she manages to bring the character to life.

Overall, The Forgotten Ones is a masterful horror movie that will keep you at the edge of your seat throughout. It draws you in with its stunning visuals and well-written plot, and the impressive special effects will leave you looking over your shoulder long after the credits have rolled.
