The Happy Ending
- 1 hr 57 min
The Happy Ending follows the lives of three people who are trying to make relationships work. Although dysfunctional relationships, the intertwined stories are intriguing and comical in certain aspects. Mamie and Charley are stepbrother and sister. In an unseen turn of events, they sleep together one night, and Mamie ends up pregnant. The baby is put up for adoption shortly after the birth. Twenty years pass. Mamie runs into Nicky, a filmmaker who states he knows the whereabouts of Mamie's adopted son. He claims he will show her where her son lives as long as he can film the first-time meeting between the two. Her boyfriend, Javier, opts to work out a better deal with Nicky. In another relationship, there is Charley, who has finally admitted he is gay. He has been in a relationship with Gil for a few years. The relationship between these two is strong. Charley and Gil find themselves in the midst of a court battle. They take their case to court to determine if it is Gil’s sperm, that he donated earlier, that is responsible for the birth of a child. The child was put up for adoption and is now in the home of a young lesbian couple that Gil and Charley know. The third relationship dilemma is the tale of Jude. Jude and Otis are in a rocky relationship, to say the least. Otis is also in a rocky relationship with his father. The two do not seem to be able to see eye-to-eye on anything. Otis finally introduces Jude to his dad, Frank, and they seem to get along well. Jude eventually continues seeing Frank, and the two eventually fall in love. She eventually leaves Otis and ends up with Frank. The Happy Ending premiered at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival under the genres of comedy, drama, and international films. It is a Lions Gate Film and during the opening weekend, grossed $1.2 million.
