The Horseman on the Roof is a French film that was first released in 1995. The Horseman on the Roof is based off of a novel by the same name that was written by Jean Giono. The Horseman on the Roof follows a group of Italian patriots who are hiding out in a village in the south of France. The small town is suffering from an epidemic of cholera, and it quickly becomes apparent that the villagers believe that the groups of travelers are the cause of the plague. The travelers have to avoid being killed by the revolution-inspired villagers and must also avoid going back to Italy for fear of the discontent there. These feelings are played over the feelings of a young man who is in love with a local villager who he simply cannot be with. Later, the man goes back to the village in order to see if she still loves him.
