The Kautokeino Rebellion is a Norwegian movie about the riots in Kautokeino that took place in 1852. It concentrates on members of the Sami or Lapps, an indigenous ethnic group that live near the Arctic Circle and herd reindeer. Until 1851, they had always been able to travel with the herds. After that, Norway, Sweden, and Finland closed their borders, restricting such travel. Alcoholism is another threat to their way of life -- and the Scandinavians sell booze. The main character, a country woman, joins forces with a local priest to try to get the Sami men off booze. That does not sit well with the people selling alcohol.
