During Heavy Eagle's search for Running Moon, he and his war party attack Bill and Henry's camp. Henry is scalped by Heavy Eagle while Bill and Running Moon escape. The duo are later captured, and Running Moon is subjected to abuse and sexual assault at the hands of Heavy Eagle. Bill is given the chance to run, but warriors will pursue him and kill him if he is caught. Bill runs and is able to evade a few of the warriors and kill one inside a beaver den on the river. Heavy Eagle and Bill fight on the river and are separated after going over a waterfall.
After Bill makes it to shore, he later comes across Henry, who has survived his skirmish with the Blackfoot Indians. He also finds that Running Moon is still with Heavy Eagle, and her abuse has only escalated. Bill and Henry set out to rescue Running Moon and meet up with fellow trappers William Lucking (Jim Walter) and La Bont (Seymour Cassel). The trappers attack the Blackfoot Camp and rescue Running Moon. Henry is mortally wounded in the attack, and Bill finally kills Heavy Eagle. The film ends with Bill and Running Moon leaving into the wilderness on horseback.
