Initially, Joanna is hesitant to join Mr. Leiningen, but eventually decides to take the challenge, upon which she makes the long journey to South America. However, upon reaching his plantation, Joanna soon realizes that life in the jungle is not only difficult but dangerous, as the plantation is located on the banks of a river crawling with flesh-eating ants.
