The Patient, released in 2009, is a psychological thriller that packs a punch with its efficient storytelling, clever cinematography and a powerful ensemble cast. The movie was directed by the multi-talented writer, producer and director, Kenny Young, and centers around an intriguing, thought-provoking story that keeps the audience engaged from beginning to end.

The film primarily follows the character of Bob (Altorro Prince Black), a young man who has been battling with mental health issues, and who is forced to enter a psychiatric institution after a botched suicide attempt. Bob is assigned to a psychiatrist, Dr. Liz Manners (Jennifer Hare), who slowly starts to peel back the layers of his complex psyche, uncovering some deeply rooted and troubling psychological problems that need to be addressed.

As Bob opens up more and more to Dr. Manners, his mother, Jane (Kirsten Collins), attempts to gain control over his treatment, ultimately leading to a dangerous confrontation within the psychiatric institution. Meanwhile, the other patients also begin to unravel in ways that are both shocking and heart wrenching.

The pacing of the movie is impressive as it slowly builds up the tension, leading to a final act that is truly intense, unpredictable and unforgettable. The screenplay, written by Kenny Young himself, is uniformly excellent with each character given enough space to be fully fleshed out and engaging.

The performances in The Patient are uniformly impressive, with each actor bringing their unique touch to their characters. Altorro Prince Black shines in the lead role of Bob, managing to portray a sense of vulnerability that is both heartbreaking and chilling at the same time. Jennifer Hare is equally impressive as Dr. Manners, bringing a sense of empathy to the character that makes her feel genuine and relatable.

Phil Amico shines in the supporting role of Dr. Ryan Michaels, the chief psychiatrist of the institution, who is both professionally distant and personally invested in the welfare of his patients. Bruce Hamilton is also excellent as the institution's security guard, Ben, providing a sense of authority that is believable and compelling.

The cinematography and sound design are both noteworthy, adding the much-needed atmosphere to the film. The use of shadows, angles, and extreme close-ups are all cleverly incorporated to give the audience a sense of disorientation and a feeling of unease.

Overall, The Patient is an excellent psychological thriller that succeeds in engaging the viewer with its intriguing story and impressive performances. It is a must-watch for fans of the genre and a great introduction to the work of Kenny Young.
