The Raven is a movie set in an engagingly dark side of the Renaissance era. Mysterious murders occur based off of Edgar Allen Poe's dark writing.John Cusack plays Edgar Allen Poe twisting the story into a writer's darker side as he soon takes up being a detective to save himself from jail. This movie is rated PG 13 for good reason as it is not meant for the weak of heart. A movie meant for the more mature audience such as teenagers and adults. The director James McTeigue captivates the screen yet again as he seeps into a world that has never been touched before. He brought the movie V for Vendetta onto the big screen. With the raven he brings forth a suspect who makes it his job to uncover not only the truth, but also to find his love who is being held hostage by the serial killer. Every twist, and moment leads to a new clue for both Poe, and the audience. Poe is dragged back into his dark muse as he uses his own writing to uncover a even darker truth. The use of wonderful background sets, and computer graphics help make the events in this movie seem realistic. A single raven, or sometimes many ravens help symbolize the famous poem written by Poe giving true character to the movie. Another interesting appeal is small references to Shakespeare plays hidden within the movie. This thriller leaves no room for breathers as it quickly engages the audience into a dark suspenseful horror.Edgar Allen Poe's last days alive were in no shape boring as he pays the price for his dark and twisted works of poetry. The ending is in no way a let down as it leaves room for a possible sequel.
