As a boy, Jim was the sole survivor of a wagon train massacre committed by Crow Indians. He was found by members of the Sioux tribe and raised by them. Now an adult, Jim is given the name Warbonnet. He and the rest of the tribe learn that gold has been discovered in the Black Hills of South Dakota, and they fear the whites will not honor the sovereignty of their land. Warbonnet must now do what he can to prevent an all-out war between the U.S. Cavalry and the Sioux.
