Treasure Island is a movie that is based on the classic novel of the same name by Robert Louis Stevenson. The movie is directed by Byron Haskin and was released in 1950. It tells the story of Jim Hawkins, a young man who discovers a treasure map in a chest belonging to a sailor who had been murdered. Jim sets out on a voyage to find the treasure with the help of a crew led by Long John Silver, a one-legged pirate.

The movie begins with Jim Hawkins (Bobby Driscoll) working at an inn owned by his mother. One day, a mysterious sailor named Billy Bones (Finlay Currie) comes to stay at the inn. He is constantly paranoid about being followed and asks Jim to keep watch for anyone who might be after him. One night, Billy Bones dies from a heart attack after being visited by a blind former pirate named Pew (played by the legendary Basil Sydney). Jim finds a treasure map in Billy Bones’ chest and decides to set out on a voyage to find the treasure.

Jim joins a crew of pirates led by Long John Silver (Robert Newton), who is friendly towards Jim and even takes him under his wing. However, Jim soon discovers that Silver and his crew are planning a mutiny and that he must use all his wits to outsmart them and claim the treasure for himself. Along the way, Jim meets Ben Gunn (Geoffrey Wilkinson), a former member of Silver’s crew who has been marooned on an island for three years. Ben provides Jim with valuable information that will help him find the treasure.

Treasure Island is a swashbuckling adventure that features elaborate sword fights, sea battles, and skullduggery. It is a classic tale of good versus evil, and of a young man who must take on a group of hardened pirates in order to claim the treasure that rightfully belongs to him. The movie is beautifully shot and features stunning scenery, including shots of the Caribbean Sea and the island where the treasure is located.

The lead performances are all excellent. Bobby Driscoll, who was a child star at the time, brings a sense of innocence and bravery to his portrayal of Jim Hawkins. Robert Newton, who had already played Long John Silver in a stage adaptation of the novel, is brilliant in the role, capturing both the charm and the ruthlessness of the character. The supporting cast is also strong, with standout performances from Basil Sydney as Pew and Geoffrey Wilkinson as Ben Gunn.

One of the highlights of the movie is the musical score by the legendary composer, Victor Young. The score features rousing orchestral pieces that perfectly capture the excitement and danger of the adventure. It also includes a memorable theme song that is sung by the characters during the voyage, and which has become a classic in its own right.

Though the movie is set in the 18th century, it has a timeless quality that makes it accessible to audiences of all ages. It is a reminder of the power of good storytelling, and of the enduring appeal of swashbuckling adventures. Treasure Island is a movie that truly captures the spirit of the novel on which it is based, and is a must-see for fans of classic adventure films.

Treasure Island is a 2002 animated movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 14 minutes.
