Originally called A Song for Marion, Unfinished Song, a 2012 British-German dramedy, tells the story of a cantankerous pensioner, Arthur (Terence Stamp), who, for the sake of carrying on his newly departed wife, Marion’s (Vanessa Redgrave) dreams, joins the local unorthodox choir. Unbeknownst to him, this choice leads into the process of embracing a new culture to him and bridging the gap with his long-estranged son. In the process, Arthur turns from a bitter person into a much happier one. Celine Dion performed the theme song, “Unfinished Songs”, written by Diane Warren for the film and the song is also on her 2013 album, Loved Me Back to Life. Unfinished Song shows the importance of embracing the world around you instead of fearing it. It also emphasizes the importance of honoring your deceased loved one’s memories in the way that he or she would want it to manifest even if it’s different from the way you would do it. Most importantly, it emphasizes that it doesn’t matter when or what it takes for you embark on your journey to self-discovery, only that you do so at some point.
