Unzipped is a documentary directed by Douglas Keeve that follows Isaac Mizrahi through his exploits in the fashion industry while he is planning his collection for fall of 1994. The film begins in New York, finding fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi going to read the reviews of his current collection that was presented the prior day. The reviews are not good, and he is devastated yet resolved to change his emotional state as soon as possible. He immediately begins to work on his collection for autumn 1994. During the process, he goes through many different doubts, inspirations, distractions and discouragements. Viewers also have an opportunity to see how the inner workings of the fashion world work, with all its idiosyncrasies and strange surreal occurrences. Isaac starts with no ideas and decides to distract himself with gossip and pop culture. He finally begins to become inspired while watching the images of a movie titled The Call of the Wild from 1935. He is entranced by Loretta Young being rescued by Clark Gable after she nearly froze to death in the harsh and dangerous wilderness of the Arctic. Isaac happens to notice that as the actress opens her eyes in one of the frames, her face is luminous, surrounded by a huge fur hat with perfectly done makeup. The film also features cameos by models such as Christy Turlington, Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and Linda Evangelista. Mizrahi is followed about so that viewers can find out who he is. He leaves nothing out and is constantly with friends, associates and onlookers. Mizrahi's creativity is recorded during this period, and he articulates all of his influences. He also discusses how what he sees is ultimately transformed into one of his collections. The process is depicted to include more the sense of how the artists of the day do not think as much about the work as they tend to shape things around it.
