The movie Valley of the Dolls follows three young women who live famous lives, drinking excess amounts of booze and taking pills, as well as allow men to take complete control of their lives. This story begins with a smalltown woman named Anne Welles. She arrives in New York ready to start her life and is willing to do almost anything for fame, but she decides to take up a job as a theatrical attorney assistant for Henry Bellamy.

However, this job leads her to meet a woman named Helen Lawson, who is known as the great dame of Broadway musicals in New York City. She also meets Neely O' Hara who is an up and coming performer.

One day, Neely's career begins to takeoff mostly due to having a series of gigs at nightclubs. While this happens, she meets an attractive starlet named Jennifer North.

As time goes by, all three women lead successful careers in their lives. Neely becomes a famous star of both the stage and the big screen, Jennifer begins showing up in a wide variety of topless European art films, Anne becomes a spokesperson for many wealthy cosmetic products.
