VooDoo is a horror movie from 2017 directed by Tom Costabile. The film follows a young woman named Dani (played by Samantha Stewart) who decides to go to New Orleans for her 25th birthday to visit her cousin Stacy (played by Ruth Reynolds). Dani has no idea that her cousin practices voodoo and is a believer of the religion. The moment Dani visits Stacy, eerie things begin to happen.

The film starts off with a series of disturbing voodoo rituals performed by a sinister witch doctor (played by Dominic Matteucci) in the dark alleys of the city. From the outset, the movie sets a dark and brooding tone that effectively captures the essence of voodoo culture. The soundtrack plays a pivotal role in building fear and tension throughout the film, with the use of percussion-based sounds and ambient noise.

Dani and Stacy soon get involved in a series of events that reveal the danger and power of voodoo. Dani begins to experience horrific nightmares that depict demonic imagery and sadistic violence. As the movie progresses, we learn that Stacy had made a voodoo doll of Dani and is practicing dark magic on it in order to bring Dani's soul under her control.

As Dani begins to realize she's the target of her cousin's voodoo, she discovers that the vile religious practices in which Stacy is engaged, are not taking place without consequences. Soon enough, the forces of darkness and evil that dwell within the voodoo unleash their destructive power upon Stacy and her family. Dani embarks on a mission to save herself and her cousin from a fate worse than death- eternal damnation in the afterlife.

The film uses traditional voodoo iconography to convey its messages, such as the use of the crossroads, which lie at the intersection of the worlds of the living and the dead. At its core, the plot of the movie is very much a traditional horror story about possession, supernatural forces, and eternal damnation. It's a reminder that sometimes our curiosity and desire to explore can be detrimental, leading us down a dark path from which there is no escape.

VooDoo does well in conveying the cultural and religious practices of voodoo, and how it can be both powerful and dangerous. It's not often that we see an accurate representation of the religion in popular culture, and VooDoo serves as an interesting exploration of the practices and beliefs associated with the religion.

Samantha Stewart gives a convincing performance as Dani, the innocent victim who lured into the dark world of voodoo. Ruth Reynolds also delivers an impressive and convincing performance as Stacy, the vengeful and malevolent cousin. Dominic Matteucci plays the role of the witch doctor with chilling conviction, creating a character that is both mysterious and ominous.

Overall, VooDoo is a well-directed, well-written, and powerful film that is sure to give you chills long after the movie has ended. The movie artfully mixes themes of possession, cultural religion, and the supernatural to create a horror story that is haunting, frightening, and engaging. It's a must-watch film for any horror enthusiasts looking for a good scare.

VooDoo is a 2017 horror movie. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 3.6 and a MetaScore of 42.
