Billed as a "horror comedy," this silly movie plays with all of horror's generic elements, and gives cameos to characters from nearly all of the classic horror repertoire. The 1980s technological limitations add more charm to this cute spoof. Four university students (Zach Galligan, Deborah Foreman, Michelle Johnson, and Dana Ashbrook) are invited to visit a wax museum by its strange director (David Warner), who has hatched a nefarious plot to take over the world. For the museum has a hideous secret: its exhibits can suck observers into them, turning their victims into exhibits in their turn. Two of the students (the "naughty ones," of course, as in all good horror films) are caught up in the ghastly displays, but the other two manage to escape. They seek help from the police who, unfortunately, cannot avoid being themselves sucked up into the wax displays. Now the students must roll out the big guns: elderly Sir Wilfred (Patrick Macnee) who ferrets out the mysterious origins of the wax displays and sets the students on the path to saving the day. They won't do so before they've tipped a cinematic hat to nearly all of the major horror narratives and characters of the past 250 years.
