In 1957, Dorothy and Ted Atwood were parents of four biological children. One day, Ted and Dorothy found a picture of a Korean-American boy of about 2 and orphaned. This was the beginning of Dorothy's adoptions. In 1963, Ted Atwood died of cancer at age 49. Dorothy, mother of seven, was widowed. In 1970, she married Robert DeBolt and had nine children that Bob adopted. In seven years, they had nineteen kids of many nationalities, races, and disabilities. Bob and Dorothy DeBolt founded AASK(Adopt a Special Kid) in 1973. The DeBolts wanted to encourage others to adopt special kids.
