Tommy Cooper has been on the path of self-destruction since he was a young boy. His mother was a drug addict and his father was in and out of prison. After being placed in foster care for a number of years, Tommy eventually ended up in a children's home where he was abused both physically and emotionally.

As an adult, Tommy continued to struggle with addiction and volatile behaviour. He met Sian O'Callaghan at a nightclub and the two began dating. On the night of Sian's disappearance, Tommy had been out drinking and taking drugs. He returned home and fell asleep, claiming to have no knowledge of what happened to Sian.

Detective Superintendent Steve Fulcher is convinced that Tommy knows more than he is letting on. He brings Tommy in for questioning and slowly begins to break down his defences. As Tommy's story unravels, Steve is faced with a difficult decision. Does he continue to push Tommy for information, potentially jeopardising the case against him, or does he let him go and risk never finding Sian's body?

Meanwhile, Sian's family is struggling to come to terms with their loss. Her mother Elaine attends court proceedings, desperate for justice for her daughter. However, she is shocked to learn that Steve's actions have put the case at risk. As tensions rise, Elaine is forced to confront the possibility that they may never find Sian's body and brings her community together to search for her daughter.
