Ep 5. PB Without J

Alexa & Katie is a heart-warming Netflix original series about two lifelong best friends, Alexa and Katie, who take on high school together, despite a major life challenge. Both girls are excited for the first day of their sophomore year, but before they can gear up for their first day, Katie is hit with some bad news: she can't try out for the basketball team due to a broken ankle. Determined not to let this setback ruin her year, Katie sets her sights on another goal- to become the principal's assistant. Meanwhile, Alexa continues to battle cancer but stays positive with the help of her supportive family and closest friends, including Katie.

In episode 5 of season 2, titled "PB Without J", Alexa and Katie are dealing with a different kind of challenge - a PB&J controversy. When the cafeteria at school stops serving peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, Alexa and Katie take matters into their own hands and start smuggling in their own sandwiches. Their plan goes awry when Alexa mistakenly gives her sandwich to a classmate with a peanut allergy. This leads to a school-wide ban on peanut butter, much to the dismay of the two best friends.

As they work to convince the school administration to lift the ban, Alexa and Katie struggle with their own disagreements over their friendship. Alexa feels like she's always taking care of Katie, who is constantly worrying about her health and her future. Katie, on the other hand, feels like she's constantly being left behind as Alexa deals with her illness. Through it all, the girls rely on their communication and honesty to work through their differences and stay strong.

Elsewhere in the episode, Alexa's mom, Lori, is struggling with her own difficulties as a single mother. She's trying to navigate the dating scene and even goes on a date with a man who turns out to be more than she bargained for. Meanwhile, Alexa's father, Dave, is trying to bond with his daughter in his own way, by teaching her how to build model airplanes. Though Alexa is initially resistant, she eventually sees the value in their time together and the importance of making memories.

With its endearing characters, relatable storylines, and positive messages, "PB Without J" is another heartwarming episode in the series. It's a reminder that life can be tough, but with resilience, determination, and the support of loved ones, anything is possible.
