- August 21, 2020
Alien TV is a comedic, CGI-animated television series that follows a news crew from the planet Zog as they explore Earth and report back to their extraterrestrial audience. In season 1 episode 12 titled "Toyshop / Laundromat / Yoga," the crew investigates some of the peculiarities of Earthly life by visiting a toy store, a laundromat, and a yoga session.
In the first segment, the crew heads to a toy store to learn about the various playthings that humans enjoy. They're fascinated by the sheer variety of toys on display, from action figures to board games to stuffed animals. However, they quickly discover that not all toys are created equal: while some are designed for fun and creativity, others seem to serve no purpose other than to make noise and annoy parents. The Aliens marvel at how humans remain captivated by these seemingly pointless toys, and struggle to understand the appeal.
Next, the crew visits a laundromat to learn about this vital aspect of human cleanliness. They observe as people load their dirty clothes into washing machines and dryers, and marvel at the efficiency with which these machines can clean clothes. However, they also notice that some humans seem to struggle with the process - some don't know how to operate the machines, while others forget to retrieve their clothes once they're done. As always, the Aliens bring their own unique perspective to this everyday activity, pondering the science behind washing machines and debating the merits of different types of detergent.
Finally, the crew attends a yoga session to learn about this popular form of exercise. They're surprised to see so many people gathered in one room, all moving in sync and making strange noises. However, as they observe the various stretches and poses, they begin to see the benefits of yoga for both physical and mental health. They even attempt to join in the session themselves, with hilarious results. As always, the Aliens are curious about the cultural significance of yoga and still trying to figure out what exactly "namaste" means.
As with all episodes of Alien TV, "Toyshop / Laundromat / Yoga" is a light-hearted exploration of human life through the eyes of extraterrestrial visitors. With its mix of slapstick humor, fish-out-of-water observations, and gentle satire, it's a perfect showcase for the show's unique blend of silliness and heart. Whether you're a fan of science fiction, comedy, or just plain weirdness, Alien TV has something for everyone.
