Ep 2. Mr. Jingles

In American Horror Story season 9 episode 2, titled "Mr. Jingles," we are taken deeper into the unsettling world of Camp Redwood. The episode starts with its own homage to 80s slasher flicks, introducing us to the mysterious escaped killer Mr. Jingles. We see him sneaking into a gas station store to stock up on weapons and supplies before heading back to his old stomping grounds, Camp Redwood.

Meanwhile, we learn more about the various camp counselors and their troubled pasts. Brooke is dealing with trauma from a recent attack, while Montana is still reeling from the loss of her brother. We also see flashbacks to 1970, when Mr. Jingles first went on his killing spree at the camp.

As night falls, the counselors gather around a campfire to tell ghost stories. But their spooky night takes a turn when they hear strange noises and realize that they may not be alone. It's not long before Mr. Jingles starts picking them off one by one, terrorizing the camp in a brutal and shocking manner.

One of the most interesting aspects of this episode is the way it subtly subverts the tropes of the slasher genre. There are plenty of jump scares and gory deaths, but the writers also do a good job of building sympathy for the characters and making us invested in their stories. We feel the weight of their past traumas, and their struggle to survive Mr. Jingles' attacks feels genuinely suspenseful.

Towards the end of the episode, things take a strange turn as we see evidence of some kind of supernatural force at work in the camp. Whether this is a red herring or a clue to something deeper remains to be seen, but it's clear that there is more going on at Camp Redwood than meets the eye.

Overall, "Mr. Jingles" is a tense and thrilling episode that keeps us on the edge of our seats. It serves as a strong follow-up to the season premiere, and sets the stage for what is sure to be a wild and unpredictable season of American Horror Story.
