Belton House in Lincolnshire plays host to the Antiques Roadshow team in this episode of the long running series. The estate is famous for its opulent interiors, impressive collections and beautifully manicured gardens. It is a fitting backdrop to the array of antiques and collectibles that members of the public have brought to show to the experts.
The first item to be brought to the attention of the team is a beautiful platinum and diamond ring that has been in the family for several generations. The owner has no idea of its value and is delighted to discover that she owns a piece worth many thousands of pounds. Another visitor has brought in a collection of antique walking sticks, one of which is made from Indian Silver and is a rare and highly sought after item.
There are a number of portraits on display for the team to assess, including a charming painting of a child which is believed to be by one of the finest artists of the Dutch Golden Age. The owner of the painting has done her research and is hoping to get an expert opinion on its authenticity.
The team is also presented with a selection of silver pieces, including a stunning Art Nouveau centerpiece that is in exceptional condition. The item is valued highly, but the owner is less interested in the potential financial gain and more concerned with the sentimental value of a piece inherited from his grandmother.
Other items that grab the attention of the experts include a rare set of Victorian playing cards, a Tiffany-designed vase and a pair of quirky Victorian dogs, which require closer inspection to determine their true worth.
As well as the objects, the programme also takes a look around the stunning Belton House, giving viewers an insight into the fascinating history of this impressive estate. The experts also chat to members of the public, who have brought along items for appraisal, to learn more about the stories behind their treasured objects.
