In season 1 episode 2 of Atypical, titled "A Human Female," the story picks up where it left off in the previous episode. Sam, an 18-year-old boy who is on the autism spectrum, is trying to navigate the world of dating. In the previous episode, he went on his first date with a girl named Paige, and in this episode, he is trying to figure out how to progress their relationship.

Sam's family is also struggling with their own issues. His parents, Elsa and Doug, are trying to reconnect after Elsa had an affair. Meanwhile, Sam's sister, Casey, is dealing with her own romantic problems, as she has a crush on a boy who is dating someone else.

The episode begins with Sam and Paige on their second date at a diner. Sam is struggling to carry on a conversation with Paige, and even though he has a list of questions to ask her, he finds it difficult to keep up with the flow of the conversation. This leads to some awkward moments, but overall, their date goes well.

Sam's relationship with Paige is becoming more complicated, and this is causing him to become increasingly anxious. He is worried about whether or not Paige will want to continue dating him, and this anxiety is causing him to act in ways that are not typical for him. For example, he calls Paige multiple times in a row when she does not answer her phone, which makes her feel uncomfortable.

Meanwhile, Elsa is struggling to deal with the fallout from her affair. She is trying to make things right with Doug, but he is understandably upset with her. Elsa goes to see a therapist, and in their session, she confesses that she is not sure if she still loves Doug. This revelation is a shock to both Elsa and the therapist, and it sets Elsa on a path of self-discovery.

Casey, Sam's sister, is also dealing with her own issues. She has a crush on a boy named Evan, but he is dating someone else. She is struggling to deal with her feelings and decides to write a letter to Evan expressing how she feels. However, as she goes to give him the letter, she sees him with his girlfriend and decides not to give it to him.

Overall, "A Human Female" is a great follow-up to the first episode of Atypical. It continues to explore the characters' struggles and provides plenty of emotional depth. The episode also highlights some of the challenges that people on the autism spectrum face when it comes to dating and relationships. While Sam's storyline is certainly the focal point of the episode, the other characters are given enough attention to make their struggles feel just as important. This creates a well-rounded episode that is both entertaining and emotionally compelling.
