In the opening episode of the German thriller series Biohackers, titled “Arrival,” a young woman named Mia enters a train station in Berlin, her face hidden by a dark hoodie and sunglasses. She takes her seat on the train, and the camera zooms in on her nervous expression. What is she running from? Where is she going? The answers come quickly, as we see flashbacks of her scientific background in a prestigious university, where her mentor Lorenz helped hone her skills in genetic engineering.

Mia arrives at Freiburg University with the hope to attend a prestigious genetics program, and she soon befriends her charming roommate, Niklas. But Mia’s motives are not entirely clear, and it seems like there is more to her arrival at this university than just a pursuit of knowledge. When she sneaks into a highly secured access zone, it becomes apparent that she is on a mission to uncover the truth about Lorenz, who she believes has been keeping vital information from her.

As Mia delves deeper into her investigation, we see her intense curiosity and a lack of regard for rules make her peers and professors question her methods and motivations. With the help of her hacker friend Chen-Lu, Mia begins to unravel a web of secrets that suggest a dark and dangerous scientific conspiracy is in the works. Lorenz and his team are experimenting on human DNA, trying to create a biological weapon that could change the course of civilization. And he might have used Mia's own DNA to do it.

The first episode of Biohackers is masterfully crafted, providing the perfect introduction to a science fiction story that has a great deal of promise. Mia's character is compelling and engaging, and her struggles with her own morals and motivations make her an empathetic protagonist. The series builds a suspenseful atmosphere that opens the door for many possibilities.

There is a lot of mystery surrounding the show, and as we get a glimpse of Mia's past, we become more intrigued by her backstory. The episode leaves us with several questions that beg to be answered: What deep dark secrets does Lorenz hold? Why is he so invested in Mia? And what kind of person is Mia really? As Mia poses these questions to herself, we can see that there is an internal conflict within her. Lidia Biondi’s direction is a clear standout, and her vision elevates the episode to an artistic triumph.

In the first episode of Biohackers, we are presented with a tantalizing mystery and given a glimpse into the dangerous world of illegal scientific experimentation. With well-written characters and stunning direction, the episode sets the stage for what promises to be an exhilarating sci-fi thriller ride. If the rest of the series can match the quality of this opening chapter, Biohackers will be a force to be reckoned with in the world of science fiction television.
