Ep 11. The Story of Moses

  • January 1, 1978

In Children's Heroes of the Bible season 1 episode 11, viewers will learn about the biblical figure Moses and his incredible story. Moses was born into slavery in Egypt and his mother saved his life by placing him in a basket and sending him down the Nile River. He was eventually found by Pharaoh's daughter and raised in the royal household.

As Moses grew older, he became aware of the suffering of his people and decided to take action. He witnessed an Egyptian slave driver beating a Hebrew slave and was so outraged that he killed the Egyptian. Fearing for his safety, he fled to the wilderness and became a shepherd.

One day, while tending to his flock, Moses encountered a burning bush. The bush was not being consumed by the fire and God spoke to Moses from within the flames. God told Moses that he was being called to lead the Israelites out of Egypt and into the Promised Land. Moses was initially hesitant, feeling inadequate for such a huge task, but with God's guidance and support, he eventually agreed.

Moses returned to Egypt and, with the help of his brother Aaron, confronted Pharaoh and demanded that he let the Hebrew slaves go. Pharaoh refused and God sent a series of plagues upon Egypt, each one more devastating than the last.

Eventually, Pharaoh relented and allowed the Israelites to leave. But as they were crossing the Red Sea, Pharaoh changed his mind and sent his army after them. With God's help, Moses was able to part the waters of the Red Sea, allowing the Israelites to escape safely to the other side. The Egyptian army, however, was drowned.

After this incredible miracle, the Israelites wandered in the wilderness for 40 years. During this time, Moses received the Ten Commandments from God on Mount Sinai and helped to establish a system of laws and ordinances to govern the people.

As the end of his life drew near, Moses was not allowed to enter the Promised Land because of a past mistake. However, God allowed him to view the land from afar, and he died knowing that his people would one day inherit it.

The Story of Moses is a powerful and inspiring narrative that teaches children about courage, faith, and leadership. It demonstrates how God can work through ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things, and how trust and obedience can lead to great rewards. Through Moses' example, children can learn the value of humbleness, perseverance, and sacrifice, and how God's love and provision can sustain them through even the most difficult of circumstances.
