Ep 1. Chapter One: October Country

Sabrina Spellman is a half-witch, half-mortal teenager living in the fictional town of Greendale. As she approaches her 16th birthday, she must decide whether to fully embrace her witch heritage by signing her name in the Book of the Beast and attending the Academy of Unseen Arts, or continue living as a mortal with her friends and boyfriend Harvey.

Chapter One: October Country begins with Sabrina walking through the woods with her cousin Ambrose, a warlock who was placed under house arrest by the Witch Council. Ambrose tells Sabrina about the history of their family and how their ancestors hunted witches during the Salem Witch Trials. They come across a group of witches performing a ritual to bring a scarecrow to life, but Sabrina interrupts them and scares off the witches.

Sabrina's mortal life is shown with her two best friends, Rosalind and Susie. They run the school's newspaper, The Baxter High Daily, and are working on a story about the mysterious disappearance of a student named Tommy Kinkle. Sabrina's boyfriend Harvey and his brother Tommy work at the local mine, which is run by their father.

Sabrina is also shown at home with her aunts, Hilda and Zelda. They run a mortuary, but also practice witchcraft. Sabrina's dad was a powerful warlock who married a mortal, but he died in a plane crash when Sabrina was a baby. Sabrina is close with her aunts but doesn't always agree with their views on witchcraft and the coven.

As Sabrina's 16th birthday nears, she learns that she must undergo a dark baptism where she will pledge herself to the Dark Lord, Satan himself. Sabrina is conflicted about her decision, but her aunts and the High Priest Father Blackwood urge her to go through with it. Sabrina's friend Rosalind discovers that her family has a history of their own with witchcraft, and that the witches in Greendale have been keeping secrets from the mortals.

The episode ends with Sabrina and her friends visiting the abandoned mines, where they are attacked by a mysterious figure. Sabrina uses her witchcraft to fend off the attacker, but Harvey is left traumatized by the experience. Sabrina learns that her family and the coven have a dark history with the mines, and that they may be linked to Tommy's disappearance.

Chapter One: October Country sets up the world of Greendale and the conflict that Sabrina must face as she comes of age. The episode introduces a range of characters and themes, including moral ambiguity, witchcraft, and the power dynamics between witches and mortals.
