In Christmas Pen Pals, Sarah Drew stars as Hannah, a workaholic post office employee who finds herself in charge of the annual post office Christmas card drive. As she sifts through the thousands of letters to Santa, she comes across one from a young boy who asks for nothing more than a new husband for his single mom. Intrigued, Hannah decides to write back, pretending to be the boy's pen pal "Mr. X" and offering advice about how to find love.

Meanwhile, Niall Matter plays Matt, a struggling writer who is also coping with a recent breakup. Matt's grandmother (played by Michael Gross) encourages him to start writing Christmas cards to bring some cheer into his life, and he decides to address his letter to "Santa's Elf". When Hannah receives the letter, she recognizes some of her own advice in the writing and assumes that Matt is the boy's father. She writes back as Mr. X and they begin a correspondence, sharing their Christmas traditions, hopes, and dreams.

As Hannah and Matt continue to send letters back and forth, they start to develop feelings for each other. But neither of them knows the other's true identity, and they begin to wonder if they are really falling in love with a fictional character. With the help of their friends, family, and a little holiday magic, they must figure out who they are really writing to and whether their Christmas pen pal romance can survive the truth.

Christmas Pen Pals is a heartwarming holiday movie that celebrates the power of connection and the joy of giving. The film features charming performances from Drew and Matter, who have great chemistry on screen, as well as a delightful supporting cast that includes Gross as the wise and lovable grandmother. The story is sweet, funny, and full of surprises, with plenty of sentimental moments and uplifting messages about the true spirit of Christmas.

One of the standout elements of Christmas Pen Pals is the way it incorporates the power of written communication into its story. In an age of instant messaging and social media, the act of sending a handwritten letter can seem like a quaint and outdated practice. But the film shows how this simple act can have a profound impact on people's lives, connecting them across distances and allowing them to express themselves in ways they might not in person.

The film also touches on themes of family, community, and the importance of slowing down and appreciating the small moments in life. Hannah starts out the movie as a career-focused workaholic who has lost touch with her own family and friends, but through her correspondence with Matt, she learns to value the things that really matter in life, like love, friendship, and connection.

Overall, Christmas Pen Pals is a delightful holiday movie that is sure to put viewers in the Christmas spirit.
