In Classic Doctor Who season 13 episode 9, titled Pyramids of Mars: Part 1, the Fourth Doctor (played by Tom Baker) and his companion Sarah Jane Smith (played by Elisabeth Sladen) arrive in England in the year 1911. They discover that the ancient Egyptian god Sutekh (also known as Set) has not only been awakened from his slumber, but is also planning to destroy all life in the universe. Sutekh is being aided by an Egyptian cult who have taken control of a mansion called the Priory.
As the Doctor and Sarah investigate, they encounter the Scarman brothers, Marcus (played by Bernard Archard) and Laurence (played by Michael Sheard). Laurence has been possessed by the spirit of Sutekh and Marcus is working with the cult. The Doctor realizes that Sutekh's plan involves the use of pyramids as energy transmitters to destroy all life, starting with Earth.
Meanwhile, Sarah is kidnapped by the cult, and the Doctor and Laurence go to rescue her. While there, the Doctor discovers Sutekh's prison in the heart of the pyramid. He tries to prevent Sutekh from escaping but fails. Sutekh uses his powers to paralyze the Doctor and sends him and Sarah to the future.
Pyramids of Mars: Part 1 is the first part of a two-episode story that features some of the most memorable and iconic villains in Doctor Who history. The episode is notable for its gothic atmosphere and impressive sets, and for introducing the concept of time corridors, which would be used again in later episodes.
Tom Baker's performance as the Fourth Doctor is as quirky and eccentric as always, but in this episode, he also displays a more serious and somber side as he confronts the threat of Sutekh. Elisabeth Sladen shines as Sarah Jane, holding her own against the Doctor and the villainous cult.
Pyramids of Mars: Part 1 is a must-watch for fans of Classic Doctor Who, as well as for anyone who enjoys science fiction and horror. The episode features suspense, action, and memorable characters, and sets the stage for an epic climax in Part 2.
