- October 24, 2019
In the ninth episode of Creepshow season 1, titled "Night of the Paw," viewers are treated to a suspenseful and thrilling tale of supernatural revenge. The episode begins with local pawn shop owner, Hiram Cash, closing up shop for the night when he is visited by a mysterious woman named Whitey who seems to be in desperate need of help. Despite his better judgment, Hiram decides to let her inside the shop and listen to her story.
Whitey tells Hiram that she and her husband were on their way back from burying their son when their car broke down on a deserted road. With no other choice, they decided to take shelter in an abandoned mansion, which they soon discovered was haunted by the spirits of the former occupants. Trapped and desperate, they made a deal with the vengeful ghosts and now Whitey is in search of the final piece that will fulfill her end of the bargain.
As Hiram listens to Whitey's tale, he is intrigued but also deeply suspicious. However, when she produces a cursed monkey's paw that supposedly grants wishes, Hiram can't resist the temptation and wishes for a better life for himself. However, as with all tales involving cursed objects and wishes, the outcome is not quite what he expected.
What follows is a gripping and intense exploration of the consequences of greed, revenge, and the limits of humanity. As Hiram and Whitey come to realize, sometimes the past can never truly be laid to rest and actions have unforeseeable consequences that can haunt you long after you've made them. Kudos to the show's creators for crafting a twisty, mind-bending tale that keeps the viewer on the edge of their seat until the very end.
One of the most impressive aspects of this episode is the excellent performances by the lead actors, especially Bruce Davison as Hiram and Hannah Barefoot as Whitey. Both actors manage to convey a sense of desperation, fear, and hopelessness that is palpable and intense. The episode's haunting visuals and expertly crafted cinematography also add to the overall sense of unease and tension that permeates every scene.
Overall, "Night of the Paw" is a standout episode of Creepshow that showcases the show's ability to deliver engaging, suspenseful, and thought-provoking horror stories. With its skillful writing, strong acting, and haunting imagery, this episode is sure to stick with viewers long after the credits have rolled.
