Jen (Christina Applegate), a real estate agent and mother of two, is grieving the sudden loss of her husband in a hit-and-run accident, which she blames on a reckless driver. Desperate for closure, she begins attending a support group for individuals who have lost loved ones to violence. There, she meets the free-spirited Judy (Linda Cardellini), who offers comfort and compassion in the wake of her crushing loss.

Jen and Judy bond instantly over their shared pain, and Jen invites her new friend back to her home for a glass of wine. As the two women get to know each other, Judy reveals that she too has suffered a great loss: her fiancé, who died of a heart attack. Despite their different circumstances, the women find common ground in their grief and share a vulnerable moment.

The next day, Jen is shocked to discover that Judy has returned, having left her phone behind. Jen invites her inside for coffee, but quickly grows suspicious when Judy begins to ask personal questions about her husband's death. Jen asks her to leave, feeling uneasy about the encounter.
