Diablero is a supernatural drama series that is available to stream on Netflix. It first premiered on the platform on 21st December 2018, while the second season was released on 31st January 2020. The series is based on the novel "El Diablo me obligó" (The Devil Forced Me) by Francisco Haghenbeck. The show is set in Mexico City and involves the battle between good and evil as three characters fight to save humanity.

The first season follows the life of Father Ramiro Ventura, a demon hunter who is tasked with saving the city from supernatural forces, alongside his team. The demons that Torque works to eliminate are complex creatures whose actions often have consequences that reach much further than their immediate surroundings. Helping Torque on the front lines are his apprentice, Elvis Infante, the streetwise Nancy Gama, and the demon-possessed Keta Santos. Together, they must solve a string of supernatural incidents that range from exorcisms to a demon-infested university to a missing girl case that perhaps holds a deeper meaning.

As the story unfolds, the characters' backstories and relationships are brought to light, and viewers are gradually introduced to the diverse and sometimes bizarre supernatural elements of the show's gritty urban setting. Over the course of the season, audiences are also exposed to the intricate world of underworld politics and an elaborate hierarchy of demons and angels that operate unseen within MX City. Throughout the show, the script reveals both the good and bad of individuals and mass entities at play in the world.

The second season picks up where the first season left off, and this time around, Torque and his team are faced with a new set of supernatural problems that have a more significant impact on the city. The season follows a similar structure as before, with the team working to stop various supernatural situations from escalating into all-out chaos. The second season closely focuses on the darker elements of the show, offering viewers a larger insight into the inner workings of the supernatural realm. The characters of Nancy and Keta are further fleshed out this season, and viewers are given a more in-depth insight into how they fit into the show's mythos.

One of the most notable aspects of the show is its seamless blend of genres. The show balances horror, action and dark humour with unexpected ease, resulting in a unique and engaging viewing experience. The show's special effects and makeup are also of a high standard, creating convincing demon effects that are both creepy and thrilling. The show's action sequences manage to be both brutal and exciting and are complemented by a groovy soundtrack that provides the perfect atmosphere for Diablero's fierce fight scenes.

The performances of the cast are impressive, considering they have to navigate a lot of the series' more fantastical elements. Christopher Von Uckermann gives a fantastic performance as the charismatic Elvis Infante, while Giselle Kuri as Keta Santos demonstrates flexibility in the character's possession. The standout performances, evident throughout the show's run, however, come from co-lead actors, Horacio Garcia Rojas, and Fátima Molina. Garcia Rojas, who portrays Father Ramiro Ventura, delivers a powerful performance that portrays the character's internal struggle as he deals with his own past and beliefs. Fátima Molina, who portrays Nancy, offers a fiercely engaging performance, stealing the spotlight in many scenes simultaneously.

Overall, Diablero is a brilliantly executed show with a lot of promise. The series' supernatural element is integrated well into the harsh reality of Mexico City, and the performances and soundtrack all contribute to the show's unique atmosphere. The show deftly handles a wide variety of subject matter and manages to create a fascinating and wholly addictive world for viewers to immerse themselves in. A must-see for all fans of horror, action, and Mexican folklore, Diablero is a fantastic addition to the Netflix roster.
