Earth to Luna! is a children's animated show that follows the adventures of a curious and eager young girl named Luna and her two brotherly pets, Jupiter and Clyde, as they explore and learn about the world around them. Season 1 episode 25 titled "Nighty Night, Sun" sees Luna observing the patterns of day and night and how they affect life on Earth.
The episode begins with Luna's mom telling her and her pets that it's time to pack up and head home as the sun is setting. Luna is excited to observe the changes that happen during the night as she usually goes to bed early and misses out on the action. As they make their way back home, Luna observes the sky turning from blue to pink to orange and finally to dark blue before stars begin to appear. She notes that the sun creates light that illuminates the sky and allows us to see things but also makes it hot during the day. She then muses on what the sun does when it's not shining on Earth.
The next day, Luna tries to observe the sun's movements during the day but finds it too bright to look at directly. She decides to make a plan to observe the sun at night. She and her pets visit their neighbor, Mr. Watts, who has a telescope. He shows Luna how to use the telescope to observe the stars and explains that they come out when it's dark because they are always there but the sun's light makes them hard to see during the day. Luna is excited to use the telescope to observe the night sky and eagerly waits for nighttime.
When night falls, Luna and her pets sneak out of bed and set up the telescope to observe the sky. Luna observes the moon and the stars but is disappointed that she can't see the sun. She then realizes that the sun is on the other side of the planet and that's why it's not visible at night. She wonders what life is like on the other side of the planet and decides to investigate.
Luna and her pets use a homemade globe to observe the different countries and time zones around the world. They discover that while it's daytime in some countries, it's nighttime in others. Luna also learns that some animals are nocturnal and come out to hunt and play at night while others sleep. She observes fireflies and other creatures that she doesn't usually see during the day. Luna and her pets then fall asleep outside while looking up at the stars.
The next morning, Luna wakes up late and rushes to get ready for school. On the way there, she observes the sun rising and notes that it looks different from when it sets. She also observes how the changing light affects the plants and animals around her. When she gets to school, the teacher asks the class what they learned in the past week and Luna eagerly shares her observations about day and night. She shows her class a video she made of the night sky and the creatures she saw. Her classmates are amazed and ask her how she did it.
At the end of the episode, Luna reflects on the different things she learned about day and night and the effects they have on the world around her. She notes that even though she can't observe the sun at night, its absence allows her to see and learn about things she wouldn't during the day. She and her pets then play with flashlights and shadows, exploring the limits of light and darkness. The episode ends with Luna eager to continue learning and exploring the world around her.
