Ep 1. Waiting for Dutch

In the first episode of Fargo season 2, titled "Waiting for Dutch," viewers are transported back to 1979 in Luverne, Minnesota. The episode opens with a violent and mysterious scene where a group of men are brutally murdered in a diner.

The episode then introduces us to the Gerhardt family, a powerful and wealthy crime family who run a local crime syndicate. The patriarch of the family, Otto Gerhardt, has a stroke and is left unable to lead the family business. This prompts a power struggle between his three children: Dodd, Bear, and Rye Gerhardt.

We are also introduced to the Blumquist family, which is headed by Ed and Peggy Blumquist. Ed is a butcher while Peggy is a beautician, and they both dream of a better life. Unfortunately for them, they find themselves caught up in the Gerhardt family's schemes when Rye Gerhardt crashes his car into their vehicle while attempting to flee a crime scene.

From there, the episode follows the political landscape of Luverne, as tensions begin to rise between the Gerhardt family and the Kansas City mafia. This is further complicated by the arrival of two mysterious men who are looking for Rye Gerhardt, the youngest member of the Gerhardt family.

Meanwhile, Lou Solverson, a state trooper, is investigating the diner murders from the opening scene. He is assisted by his father-in-law, Sheriff Hank Larsson, and together they begin to piece together the events of that fateful night.

The episode sets up the drama and tension that will continue throughout the season, as power struggles, unexpected alliances, and brutal violence are all on the horizon. As always, Fargo season 2 is filled with dark humor, unexpected twists, and a strong sense of place and time, making it one of the most unique shows on television.
