Ep 7. Shiva

As the seventh episode of the second season for Fear the Walking Dead, "Shiva" begins with the group trying to create a plan after the tragic events of the previous episode. Strand, who has until now been elusive about his true plans, reveals that his boat and financial assets are both offshore and inaccessible. The group decides that the best course of action would be to reach their destination through a nearby resort where Strand hopes to find another boat.

In the meantime, Madison takes care of Ofelia, who is still recovering from her injury, while Alicia and Chris work on keeping the area secure. Chris is still struggling to accept his father's death and the group's decision to bury him without his input, leading to tensions between him and the others.

As the group makes their way towards the resort, they encounter a village populated by a group of refugees who have been displaced from their original homes. Led by a wise and influential man named Alejandro, the refugees have established a sanctuary in the midst of the outbreak where they offer aid to other passersby. Although skeptical of the idea at first, Madison eventually realizes that this could be a sanctuary for her group, where they could rest and regroup before finding a way to their destination.

However, in a turn of events, Nick discovers a disturbing secret about Alejandro and poses a threat to his leadership. This event leads to a standoff between Nick, Madison, and Alejandro, with Nick demanding the truth from Alejandro about a strange bite mark on his skin. As they explore the consequences of Alejandro’s secret and the sanctity of the sanctuary, the tension between members of the group continues to escalate.

The latter half of the episode focuses on Strand, who sets out in search of the elusive boat that he claims is his last source of hope. While traveling towards the coastline, Strand is forced to reckon with the weight of his decisions and face the harshness of the world around him.

Throughout the installment, the characters face various challenges, both physical and emotional, highlighting different aspects of the apocalypse that they must grapple with. Fear the Walking Dead manages to capture the sense of danger that comes along with the walkers and the apocalyptic apocalypse, while also exploring the intricacies of social dynamics that come into play when faced with adversities.

Fans of the genre will appreciate this installment as it continues to deliver on the series' promise of human struggle in the face of the apocalypse, while also exploring previously uncharted territory in the form of Alejandro’s sanctuary. Fear the Walking Dead has never shied away from exploring the emotional consequences of survival, and "Shiva" is no exception.
